Poetry Assignment 2: Sound

Restaurant

All around me I am surrounded
By the sound of glasses clanking, silverware tearing through food, and the mindless chatter
That blurs all around.

It is Friday night, and already there is a line of customers out the door, waiting to be seated
Already I am splotched with barbeque sauce and apple butter.

In the kitchen I push my way through the swarm of busy coworkers with their trays yelling,
"behind you!" and "Corner!" so that we do not collide with each other.

Give good service, and always remember to smile
I am repeatedly told.

Two of my tables are nice, and like to talk to me, the other has me running all around
Hopefully they give me a nice tip to make it all worth it,
Or at least leave a good comment card to impress my boss.

Smile, just remember to smile.
